Saudi Arabia: Is the US finally turning on Mohammed bin Salman?

In a CBS interview, former Saudi spy chief Saad al-Jabri called the crown prince a 'psychopath killer'. It's possible Washington is behind these efforts to prevent bin Salman from taking the throne

On Sunday, a Saudi Arabian thriller was broadcast on CBS's 60 Minutes programme.

During the broadcast, Saad al-Jabri, a now Canada-based former top intelligence official and adviser to deposed Interior Minister Mohammed bin Nayef, spoke of the intrigues of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, warning the international community of the danger posed by a "psychopath killer in the Middle East with infinite resources".

In the show, Jabri alleged that in 2014 Mohammed bin Salman threatened to kill Saudi King Abdullah, his uncle (who died in 2015), with a poison ring from Russia in order to clear the throne for his father, King Salman.

A "Former" Saudi spy chief.

Somehow I doubt that anything is going to stop that SOB from claiming power.

but I don't know how much better another tyrant would be. Saudi Arabia is a mess, and it has to be tightly controlled because there are so many crazed religious lunatics and other radicals there. I don't like the Saud family, but what would happen if they weren't there keeping a lid on things? As it is, they're a major sponsor of terrorism. MBS is evil, but I doubt I'll be too keen on whoever replaces him, either.

has been, imho, a train wreck for a very long time. What can we do if a state actor is not in line, as we see it should be? That answer usually involves US hegemony. If we want you tossed out of the financial markets system, you are pretty much screwed. Sanctions and again imo, are not a lot different than acts of war. That creep murdered Khashoggi and one would hope we would begin a process dealing with him and all their human rights abuses. Just look at Yemen, 911 here in the US. Which country is the center of radical Islam? The Saudi's are not anyone's friend.
