7 Out of 10 Young Democrats Reject Having A Relationship With A MAGA
- Daily Kos, Dec. 8, 2021. - Ed.
Frankly, Im surprised the ratio isnt even higher.
- The study of 850 college students finds 71% of Democrats would not go on a date with someone who voted for Donald Trump. Just 31% of Republicans surveyed said they would not go on a date with a Biden voter. It also found four out of 10 Democrats would not shop at or support a business of Trump voters. Just 7% of Republicans felt the same way about Biden voters. Three in 10 Biden voters would not work for someone who voted for Trump. Just 7% of Trump voters felt that way about a Biden-voting boss.
Some of those on the right are bristling at the results of the poll, with one pointing to the line that talks about dating as "terrifying." When asked if they would be friends with someone who voted for the opposing presidential candidate, more than one in three Democrats/Biden voters (37%) said no. Just 5% of Trump voters said they could not be friends with a Biden voter. "Democrats argue that modern GOP positions, spearheaded by former President Trump are far outside of the mainstream and polite conversation," Axios explains. -
Let's be real. Trump came down the escalator and made the ridiculous racist proclamation that Mexicans are Rapists. He followed that up by tossing Latino children into mini-concentration camps & trying to ban Muslims from the entire country, He tried to take on China economically alone using mostly unproductive sanctions & then sponsored a national wave of violent attacks against Asians. He decided he saw both sides" with violence by White Supremacists & turned a blind eye to the danger of their gathering terrorist threat while repeatedly attacking the Radical Left & Black Lives Matter with threats & harassment by Federal agents, & if hed had his way the U.S. Army.
He completely blew the initial response to Covid by listening to quacks & crackpots more than doctors & scientists, downplaying masks & the vaccine & even suggested that people should drink bleach & inject ultraviolet lights under their skin to combat the virus. He stacked the SCOTUS with 3 justices totally opposed to reproductive freedom. He sponsored & fomented the largest domestic terrorist attack on American soil ever & directed it at the U.S. Capitol. If youre a reasonable Democrat who supports your own economic & reproductive freedom, equality, inclusion & the Civil Rights Act- why in the world would you ever want to be romantically associated with someone who directly opposes all of that?
For most of us being a MAGA supporter is a serious deal-breaker for some damn good reasons.
Its a hard No. Never. Obviously, members of the MAGA/GOP crowd are plenty upset about all this...

(153,170 posts)I could deal with republicans "back in the day" - although we had differences, the general feeling was that we all wanted what was best for America (although I have always known they were wrong). But this new crop of repukes, they don't even BELIEVE in America. I cannot compromise with that at all, nope.

(5,719 posts)She had a few glasses of wine last night and told my sister, that Hillary is responsible for the death of Jeffrey Epstein.
She has avoided talking politics with me by saying previously, that shes apolitical.
I dont know if i want to go down that rabbit hole to find more kookiness. Im also not sure if it makes me seem shallow to not continue to be with her.

(5,719 posts)Ive met quite a few conservative women, that would initially go out with me, because at face value, I look like just another white Republican.
The area i live in is more diverse, where the dating pool is limiting for them, as most of them dont feel comfortable dating outside their race.
They are usually more politically upfront in the beginning, unlike what has just occurred with my new girlfriend.

(326 posts)It really hurts but it really is a deal breaker. She is Jewish and I work with a bunch of Republicans and even the moderate ones slander Jews. It always made me frustrated that she was on the wrong side. When she blamed Biden for the last COVID surge and the price of gas, I said enough is enough.
Politics broke up my parents marriage and I have seen firsthand numerous times it really is an irreconcilable difference.

(995 posts)And it is amazing how many of the men close to my age fall into the MAGA category.
I cant say I blame the young Dems. If you are at all cognizant of what is going on in the world, why would you want to expend energy in a relationship with someone who is part of the problem.

(6,081 posts)Yet 90% of serial killers see Dems as potential vict...errr....friends.

(54,415 posts)Democrats are far less supportive of the death penalty, which probably matters to many serial killers, and probably to nearly 100% of the ones that get caught.

(46,749 posts)But, beware. The Switzerlands in this country are trying to find way to bring us together. Those people who unwittingly helped prolong racism because they ignored how minorities felt about racists and found ways to put us all together in the same room, thinking that they were "bringing us together." But no one ever talked about the real issues that would have exposed the fracture points.
I look back and realize that the time spent with them was a waste of my time. I should have spent the time cultivating friends that would have been supportive of my beliefs in my old age.

(2,343 posts)again in which I have to try dating, my first question to the person would be, "What are your political beliefs, opinions, etc."
I'd rather be single and a hermit forever than be with anyone who votes republican, or hell, claims to be independent.

(2,958 posts)But if was single and looking to date, I would take a more coy approach.
Instead of asking directly at the onset, use identity politics.
Like a football coach who has a sheet of prescripted plays, formulate a list of ice-breaker questions to get to know that person.
What music do you enjoy?
What vehicle do you drive?
What activities do you enjoy?
Do you do volunteer work?
etc..
Not a perfect science, but I bet one could screen out most conservatives.

(54,415 posts)I havent been looking to date new women since 1974, but human nature hasnt changed since then. Any rational woman could easily think that a man who admires Trump would share his views on women. Is anyone going to try to convince me that a vast majority of women WANT to be treated like that?
