Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, a progressive Democratic candidate for the key battleground state's open U.S. Senate seat, raised $2.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2021thanks to almost 100,000 donations averaging $27 each, his campaign announced Wednesday.
"John is a unique candidate who has deep, enthusiastic, and engaged support."
Excerpt: Fetterman is outraising other candidates by large margins. Long an outspoken advocate for economic, environmental, and social justice, the former 14-year mayor of Braddocka Pittsburgh-area steel town hard-hit by deindustrializationhas received donations from over 87% of Pennsylvania zip codes and from every one of Pennsylvania's 67 counties, according to his campaign.
Fetterman said that he and his wife Gisele "are overwhelmed with gratitude for the support that we have received from every one of you. Thank you."

(5,934 posts)I don't know a lot about Fetterman, but I like what I've heard so far. And I'm always glad to hear of a campiaign being funded at the grassroots level instead of being funded by big donors.

(10,427 posts)But very different styles. Conor is a military veteran, and knows his way around Washington. Fetterman is more of a blue-collar guy. Although, the Senate might be much too clubby for someone like him. I just keep thinking back to that video of Gov. Wolf taking him to buy a suit and tie.

(58,785 posts)transfer to the Democratic nominee if that isn't Fetterman? And how many would refuse to vote Democratic as a matter of "principle?"
In other words, what's he saying? Please say it's not anti-establishment populist rhetoric.
Because we know that elects Republicans. It elects tRump.
The nature of this era's destructive populist beast is: anti-establishment passions rule.
To populists left and right in this era, the Democratic Party is "the establishment."

(3,859 posts)and both have statewide appeal. I particularly like Fetterman, though, because of his background. He's the essence of Pennsylvania, though I think any Democrat running for that seat will pull down better than 55% of the vote.
