BTRTN: "Covid Did Not Kill My Mother... Misinformation Did"

Born To Run To Numbers guest columnist Laurie tells the harrowing, heart-breaking story of how her mother was pulled into a web of conspiracy theories and misinformation, which led her to reject science and medicine -- ending in her death.

http://www.borntorunthenumbers.com/2022/01/btrtn-covid-did-not-kill-my-mother.html

Excerpts: "My father, sister and I decided to share my family’s story in the hope of helping someone else, especially given the rise of Covid hospitalizations...Technically my mother died from Covid complications, primarily not being able to breathe. But, I believe the real cause of death was misinformation and conspiracy theories...

"...After that dinner, she delayed getting real medical care because someone was shipping her Ivermectin, Azithromycin and Hydroxychloroquine. She paid $400 in cash through an informal network and waited from November 23 until December 1 for it to come. She also was using very expensive vitamin supplements to give an extra boost to her immune system...

"Whomever is responsible for all these conspiracy videos getting passed around is part of the evil because they are manipulating information to create extremism resulting in breaking apart families and friends across America. I’ve watched many of these videos trying to understand my mother. They are slick marketing pieces of addictive content that make you feel special by 'sharing hidden secrets only they can expose.' Then they magically have products to sell you to solve or protect yourself from what they just made you believe. It’s a business model."

"My mother was an amazing astrologer and tarot card reader."

Sure, there are many questions science can't answer, but these faith-based systems have been easily disproven by science many times. An habitual refusal to accept what is known in order to embrace disproved woo is more than a slight chink in the defenses.
