LTE: Take Trump's praise of Putin as a warning to Americans

Vladimir Putin launched an unprovoked military attack against the sovereign democratic nation of Ukraine, targeting both military installations and civilian population centers, contrary to his claims that only military installations would be targeted, resulted in hundreds of injuries and deaths, incuding children.

As if this was not outrage enough, former President Donald Trump and his sidekick Mike Pompeo (former CIA director and Secretary of State under Trump), praised Putin, Trump describing Putin’s actions as “genius” and “savvy.” Mike Pompeo made similar statements regarding Putin. If there has ever been any doubt regarding Trump’s total disregard for our democracy, his praise of Putin, when considering his unprovoked attack on Ukraine, has dispelled any such doubt.

It is clear to me that Trump craves exactly what Putin has, and that is to be in absolute control, a dictator. Those supporting him, even tacitly, are complicit in trying to destroy our democracy.

Putin has inflicted pain, suffering and death on countless people throughout his tyrannical reign in Russia. Although a megalomanic, a psychopath and a criminal, he is also intelligent, a deadly combination of attributes that make Putin so dangerous. Similarly, Trump may possess many of these same attributes, apart from intellect. Although not yet having had the opportunity to achieve Putin’s level of evil, I believe that Trump may have such potential.

1. I'm glad to see someone stating the obvious here.

Which is why criminal charges against him resulting from the January 6th committee should be forthcoming in spite of threats of making this a "political war" from some Trump loyalists and American traitors. It already is one. So do the right thing, prosecute and send to jail without passing go.
