Former Tenn. deputy accused of raping 14-year-old strikes deal to avoid prison, sex offender status
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/former-tenn-deputy-accused-raping-14-year-old-strikes-deal-avoid-priso-rcna18983A former sheriffs deputy in Tennessee accused of raping a 14-year-old girl struck a plea deal with prosecutors last week that keeps him out of prison and from having to register as a sex offender, his lawyer confirmed Monday.
Court records show the terms of his sentence include supervised probation for three years and a suspension of a four-year prison sentence, unless he violates the terms of his probation, his lawyer, Leslie Ballin said Monday.
Ballin confirmed Beck was accused of raping a 14-year-old girl multiple times and his guilty plea means he does not have to register as a sex offender.
Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich said Monday in a statement: Given the totality of evidence, we ethically could not proceed to trial on the indicted offenses. The decision was made in consultation with the victim.

Fucking amazing. In some jurisdictions you can get on a sex offender registry for public urination. No kidding...because your penis is nominally exposed while peeing.
Some kind of privilege is at work here - white privilege, cop privilege...some damn thing. Maybe it was a "consensual" thing with the 14 year old? Maybe the victim's family and the cop's family are close friends?
There's a lot of information missing from this story.

OP
Because of course he was. And educate yourself. A 14 year old cannot consent.

And as to your "Maybe it was a 'consensual' thing with the 14 year old," isn't it a fundamental point of current law that a 14-year-old is a child and therefore not capable of giving consent to such a relationship? Anyway, I have a very hard time believing that a non-cop would be able to have even nominally-"consensual" sex with a 14-year-old and not only avoid prison, but keep him from having to register as a sex offender. I wonder how many other underage girls will fail to be protected from this creep in the future because of this sweetheart deal?

There is no such thing.
