My Father Fought Against The Nazis In World War II

- Friendly reminder: This is the guy who Donald Trump called a genius.
_______

- Daily Kos, March 8, 2022.

My father fought against the Nazis in World War II. My father told me about how it was to fight against the Nazis in World War II. The horrors that he witnessed are too graphic for me to describe here. But I remember him telling me that it was the most important thing that he ever did in his life. He helped to defeat Adolf Hitler. He said that if Hitler had not been defeated, he would conquer the world. And it reminds me of what’s going on in Ukraine. This country is under ferocious attack by a knockoff Hitler. Ukraine is a “buffer.” Ukraine is the country that stands between Putin and the rest of NATO, and the rest of Europe.

If Ukraine is conquered by Putin, the dominoes will fall. First Poland, then other countries in Europe. We’ve seen this movie before. If you give an inch, a brutal dictator will take a mile. It is crucial that Putin must be stopped now! I’m getting to the point where I want to go to Ukraine and fight against the Russians. But at 70 years of age, that’s probably unrealistic. So, how can I help to fulfill my father’s legacy? What can we all do? For starters, we can all support President Joe Biden during this unprecedented time in our country’s history. We can all vote! We can all vote against Ron Johnson and the other Republicans who would rather spend the 4th of July in Moscow, instead of in the U.S.A. We can all drive less to save on fuel. We can all contribute whatever we can to the Ukrainian citizens who are under attack by the knockoff Hitler. We can all expose the GOP for being in bed with Putin. Social media is a good place to do this.

While I love Daily Kos, we are preaching to the choir. I’ve taken to Twitter to denounce Ted Cruz, Ron Johnson, Marco Ruble, and the other Republicans who are standing with Team Trump/Putin. But I will not go on Facebook to do this because, honestly, no one should be on Facebook. We must expose and boycott any companies who are still doing business in Russia. Even Philip Morris and companies who sell Russian Vodka are boycotting Russia. Imagine Russian soldiers having to fight without Vodka and cigarettes? That’s like Donald Trump Jr. trying to function without snorting cocaine.

And I’m glad to see that the Swiss have finally abandoned their neutral status when it comes to Ukraine. The Swiss have joined the international community in freezing SWIFT accounts of Russian oligarchs. Previously, if the Swiss had to choose between God and the Devil, the Swiss would remain agnostic. 36 Russian oligarchs control 95% of Russia’s wealth. Let’s seize their yachts and their luxury apartments at Trump Tower. Let’s make the Russian Ruble crash and burn and turn it into a rubble.

It’s all hands-on deck. We must all do whatever we can to make Putin suffer.

What can YOU do?

And now a song by Melania Trump which Ron Johnson loves…

- Like most everyone he knew, my dad was eager to fight in WWII. Even ate pounds of bananas to pass the weight requirement for his height before walking into the recruiter’s office. A lifelong Republican, he’d have been madder than a hornet that we even have fascist sympathizers right here in America seeking to destroy the very democracy he and your dad and millions of others fought with everything they had. ~ I’m happy to pay more for gas or anything else to punish Putin and pressure him to end this war.
_______
My grandfather was also a lifelong Republican. Served as a mechanic for a C-47 squadron based in England, and even was pressed into service as a flight engineer for the big airdrop over Normandy. That being said, he was also a member of the Audubon Society, advocated for environmental conservation, and had his retirement house built with passive solar heating in the late 70s. If he were alive today, I’m sure he'd be appalled at seeing Republicans (or any Americans, really) supporting fascists, neo-nazis, and now those who want to Make Soviet Union Great Again.
________
Agreed. My Dad, a lifelong Republican, was a WWII vet and former POW for 13 months and I know for certain that he would not be putting up with the current crop of GOP members in any way, shape, or form. He would absolutely have nothing to do with Trump and would consider him a traitor for the aid and comfort he has been supplying to Putin.
_______
Especially as Former Schlub would have called your Dad a loser for getting caught as a POW. That one still boils my blood. 😡🤬
_______
I was at the 2004 Dem Convention in Boston, when John Kerry was nominated. It was so sickening when he got Swift-Boated, and all the Repugs started wearing “purple heart” bandaids, to mock “how easy” it is to get that honor medal. They have only devolved since then...😡😡😡🖕🏾
_______
I was in a room with a bunch of right wingers recently where they decided to poke fun at Jill Biden’s Doctorate because a doctorate in education is “the easiest one to get” according to them. That’s how petty these people are.
_______
That’s like, the worst thing they can say about FLOTUS Dr. Biden. Not like the things we could say about Melania, while vulgar and embarrassing (to our Nation), were and are all true...

My father was sent overseas with his unit to prevent what was considered World War III.

Washington and the Pentagon knew that Russia wasn't going to withdraw from territory captured while fighting Germany. My father's unit was on alert 24/7 as they roamed the woods of Yugoslavia, looking for Russian military, both before and after the A-bombs were dropped on Japan.

Dad said that initially, his unit was relieved that they were being sent to Europe after Germany surrendered, only to find that they were not only in more danger, but their mission was entirely secret, that nobody was to know how critical the political and military situation was at that moment.

Their assignment was to prevent more or less what's going on in Ukraine right now, to keep Russia from expanding.

as the poster emphasizes given the very high stakes. Many more Americans need to understand the extreme danger that exists, and get involved and help. Along with measures noted we need much more coordinated efforts. Democracy is under siege.
