Justice Clarence Thomas, whose conservative activist wife has battled to throw out the results of a legitimate presidential election, ironically warned in a speech Saturday that efforts to politicize the Supreme Court could compromise its credibility.
You can cavalierly talk about packing or stacking the court, Thomas told an audience Friday at a Salt Lake City hotel, the Guardian reported. You can cavalierly talk about doing this or doing that. At some point the institution is going to be compromised.
By doing this, you continue to chip away at the respect of the institutions that the next generation is going to need if theyre going to have civil society, he added, according to the Associated Press.
Thomas is one of six conservative justices on the court. His wife, Virginia Ginni Thomas, has come under heavy criticism for her involvement in activities leading up to last years Jan. 6 insurrection. She has also been criticized for her participation in the battle to throw out results of the presidential election because Donald Trump lost a fight foes have labeled unconstitutional and one that could have ended up in her husbands court.

(53,745 posts)on the Court was noting but politics. And the last three justice appointments, one not deserved at all as it was stolen from Pres. Obama, were nothing if not influenced by politics.
Is Thomas really that dense to suggest that Dems are the ones bringing political influence onto the Court, especially since he's living with a staunch influencer?

He has some nerve since he is one of the most political of them.

Projection is the language they speak so...

(9,945 posts)... Thomas should be impeached, but Dems don't have the power, votes, or will. In my opinion, the Supreme Court has been 100% political since they selected George W. Bush to be president.

(455 posts)Three to be appointed under current rules with no extraordinary delays. Then a non-partisan, merit-based process put in place to produce moderate candidates, and the President nominates three more via that process.
It's ludicrous to suggest that we just accept the current situation as non- or mildly-partisan. I can barely believe a SCOTUS justice did. SMH.
