NATO will act if Russia hits alliance, U.S. says

(snip)

Russian missiles on Sunday struck a military training base close to Ukraine’s western border with NATO member Poland and killed 35 people.

Sullivan tells CBS News’ “Face the Nation” that President Joe Biden “has been clear repeatedly that the United States will work with our allies to defend every inch of NATO territory and that means every inch.”

Sullivan says a military attack on NATO territory would cause the invocation of Article 5. That requires other countries in NATO to come to the defense of the attacked nation. Sullivan says “We will bring the full force of the NATO alliance to bear in responding.”

Sullivan says NATO would respond even if a shot by Russia that hit NATO territory was accidental.

Bombing 12 miles from nato but we won’t act until our buffer zone is gone seems foolish

I do think there are no good choices

That's why the president doesn't call us up for our advice before he makes a decision.
We can be thankful that Joe Biden is making the decisions instead of Donald Trump.

I live in a medium size town and it’s longer than 12 miles from east to west

There’s not a bunch of inside special info I need to know at 12 miles, they are basically upon poland

We've already announced that any incursion into a NATO country -- even by accident -- will trigger Article 5, which requires all NATO members to assist the attacked country.

It's only a matter before we're in the midst of this brouhaha.
