Sure, Putin is ravaging Ukraine. But think what he can do for Trump!
Donald Trumps presidency was not noteworthy for its robust honesty; quite the opposite. But it is true that, at times, Trump was more honest about his intentions and interests than might be expected of a politician, much less the president of the United States.
One moment of honesty came in July 2018, as Trump was preparing to join Russian President Vladimir Putin at a summit in Finland. During a stop in Belgium to meet with members of NATO whom Trump publicly chastised, in keeping with his tradition the president offered an explanation for his ongoing passivity toward Putin, someone he described as a competitor.
Somebody was saying, is he an enemy? Hes not my enemy, Trump said. Is he a friend? No, I dont know him well enough. But the couple of times Ive gotten to meet him, we get along very well.
Hes representing Russia. Im representing the United States, he added a bit later. So, in a sense, were competitors. Not a question of friend or enemy. Hes not my enemy. And, hopefully, someday, maybe hell be a friend.

So damn repulsive he needs all the friends he can get.
