Palm Beach Daily News: 'I nearly lost my son to COVID, Governor'

Amazingly, Gov. Ron DeSantis continually calls COVID farce and theater. That’s a disrespectful and irresponsible attitude for our state’s leader.

COVID, getting vaccinated, or wearing a mask are not farces. Nearly 1 million Americans, 73,000 in Florida, lost their lives and left loved ones to deal with losses. Millions more are long-haulers, struggling to recover 100%.

I don't understand how those around DeSantis can stand on the sidelines, watching his condescending, belittling attitude when it comes to COVID. Why ridicule individuals who want to protect themselves?

Obviously, he doesn’t have any underlying issues and his family hasn’t been affected by COVID. That’s not true for others. I nearly lost my son to a COVID-related heart attack. We have lost friends and family, young and old, to COVID. To hear the governor continually refer to it as farce or theater leaves me dumbfounded.

& almost every time he returns he has a story or two to tell about other men mocking him or encroaching on his space. Trump didn't just politicize mask wearing he made it a masculinity issue, too—real men don't wear masks.

His freedom, his choice—just like they made a choice.
