Plain Talk: Anonymous big-money ads being readied against Obama

http://host.madison.com/ct/news/opinion/column/dave_zweifel/plain-talk-anonymous-big-money-ads-being-readied-against-obama/article_588059ae-b19e-11e1-9cfe-0019bb2963f4.html

If you think the billionaires and mega-corporations around the country spent a lot of money to help keep Gov. Scott Walker in office these past few months, wait until you see what happens this fall.

As the former secretary of labor, Robert Reich, blogged earlier this week, the too-big-to-fail financial giants J.P. Morgan Chase and Goldman Sachs have joined oil conglomerates BP and Chevron and the Koch brothers in launching a new multimillion-dollar TV advertising blitz blasting President Obama over the national debt.

But, Reich admitted, he isn’t absolutely sure who’s behind the ad because the tax-exempt front group, Crossroads GPS, doesn’t have to reveal where it gets its money as long as it spends it on policy “issues” and not partisan politics.

The narrator in the “issue” ad says: “In 2008, Barack Obama said, ‘We can’t mortgage our children’s future on a mountain of debt. Now he’s adding $4 billion in debt every day, borrowing from China for his spending. Every second, growing our debt faster than our economy. Tell Obama, stop the spending.”

They're going to set the tone and focus of the national debate just like they did in Wisconsin if the Democrats don't develop an effective counternarrative to these ads.

repukes with their evil neo-repuke brothers. Neo-cons don't
mind debt as long as it's to their benefit but hate it when
spending is used to help the poor or infirmed. Old timers don't
like debt period....hence, a uniting factor.

Still, I hope the two sides will remain
fractured enough to self-defeat.
