WE'RE told Floridas Dont Say Gay law is anti-grooming. Were told it will prevent schoolkids from being victimized by sex predators. Thats false. On its face. To explain, I need to tell a story.
Real grooming requires secrecy
After considering all the facts available to me, I figure Dad began sexually molesting the child, to whom we are related, some time in 2014. Im told it ended when the child was old enough to say they didnt want to be touched that way anymore. Evidently, Dad complied.
I discovered my dads felony three years later. In the meantime, Dad had been investigated, arrested, charged, convicted and sentenced.

Real anti-grooming requires transparency
Dont Say Gay forbids certain topics. It permits parents to sue if they dont like what teachers are teaching. The effect is driving the topics of sex and gender and related topics underground where its dark.
Real groomers thrive in the dark.
When children and teachers talk about sex and gender and related topics they are talking about them in the open, where everyone can see. If parents dont like what kids learn, they can say something. That they can say something is made possible by the fact that children and teachers are having these discussions in the open for everyone to see.
As it is, Dont Say Gay robs parents of the opportunity to object to what theyre kids are learning. The climate of fear inspired by the law is almost certainly going to push teachers, fearing the ruination of lawsuits, from speaking openly about, well, pretty much anything.
I think most teachers are wonderful, but groomers real ones like my dad do live among us.
When children and teachers talk openly and transparently, real groomers have few opportunities.
Under the shadow of Dont Say Gay, they have the cover they need to groom

Laws made by predators, for predators. The prejudiced and judgmental virulence of conservatives makes them easy dupes for these kinds of laws/arguments. It's more important to be morally right; than not inflict massive harm.

GJ Florida! I thought you Republicans were all about the kids protection but it's to protect the molesters? Sneaky, sneaky. Evangelical Approved!

Yep, which is why the pedos of the GOP are pushing it

Its audience is composed of the ignorant who believe that human sexual behavior can be legislated in the name of God. It re-establishes a legal and moral conflict that subjugates one segment of society over another. The morally righteous can now persecute those who don't follow their prescription for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It sets the stage for more repression, more hatred, more hypocrisy, and more fascism. There SHOULD be shame in those who advocate for laws like these, but there is none. There is only power.
They want to keep kids in the dark for their own purposes.

when you start doing the math, you hit the puke point pretty quick. but. it is a fact that gives the lie to the panic. that and a tenner will get you a cup of overpriced bad coffee, but it is a hard number.
i feel like we need to point this out.
