Trump wanted to 'quietly' bomb Mexico, seriously, ex-Defense Secretary Mark Esper recounts

Peter Weber - 4h ago

In the summer of 2020, unhappy about the flow of drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border, then-President Donald Trump asked his defense secretary, Mark Esper, if the U.S. military could "shoot missiles into Mexico to destroy the drug labs," Esper writes in his forthcoming memoir of working in the Trump administration. Trump made this request at least twice, and after Esper pushed back with several objections, Trump suggested "we could just shoot some Patriot missiles and take out the labs, quietly," and "no one would know it was us," Esper writes in A Sacred Oath, The New York Times reports.

Esper writes "he would have thought it was a joke had he not been staring Mr. Trump in the face," the Times reports.

While straining to be fair to Trump and giving him any credit he deserves, "Esper paints a portrait of someone not in control of his emotions or his thought process throughout 2020," especially after his first impeachment trial, the Times reports. He also "singles out officials whom he considered erratic or dangerous influences" on Trump, and adviser Stephen Miller is "near the top of the list."

In an interview with CBS News' Norah O'Donnell set to air Sunday night, Esper says he was "flabbergasted" by Miller's suggestion to send 250,000 U.S. troops to the Mexico border. "I think he's joking," Esper recounts. "And then I turn around, and I look at him in these deadpan eyes. It's clear that he is not joking."

After being part of the problem for a long time, he finally starting to look at how to cash in.

He will not, but he should live in shame the rest of his life.

After the meeting with TFG and Herr Miller in regard to sending 250K troops to the border, he directed General Milley (Chairman, Joint Chief of Staff) to look into whether this plan was being worked within the Pentagon. General Milley returned to Esper a day or two later waiving a piece of paper saying "You're not going to believe this.." (and I'm sure the General added 1-2 colorful metaphors at the end of that sentence).

Nothin disqualifies TFG. WTAF?
None of these “patriots” alerted the Congress of Senate when he was being impeached…Why didn’t Esper throw this little log on the fire then?
Oh… that’s right… the six figure book deal.
This country is so sick with the love of money and power that it may not be salvageable.
Bad place for me this morning.

How can ANYONE still mention TFG and future Presidential ambition in the same sentence? The MSM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PERPETUATING THIS SICK FARCE.

By using the words 'may not', you have already offered a more positive outlook than I have about this topic.

Donald Trump Jr. is suggesting that his father's reported idea to launch missiles at Mexican drug labs wasn't such a bad idea.

Trump Jr. made the remarks on Twitter Friday following claims by former Defense Secretary Mark Esper that Trump brought up firing Patriot missiles into Mexico. Esper is the most recent Trump administration official to make headlines for claims about the former president's behavior. The tweet from Trump Jr. shows he continues to be one of his father's fiercest defenders.

"I'm still trying to figure out the recent media outrage about my father possibly wanting to target Mexican drug cartel manufacturing facilities in Mexico... Is that supposed to be a bad thing???" Trump Jr. wrote in a tweet.

In a soon-to-be-released memoir, A Sacred Oath: Memoirs of a Defense Secretary in Extraordinary Times, Esper wrote that Trump twice asked him about launching missiles into Mexico to "destroy the drug labs." Esper wrote in his book that Trump brought up the idea in the summer of 2020, saying "we could just shoot some Patriot missiles and take out the labs, quietly." Trump added that "no one would know it was us," according to the book.
