"We Are Fleeing Our State, The Anti Trans Laws Are Too Much"
- Daily Kos, May 8, 2022.
The recent spate of attacks on trans people is something that has been building for years and years and my husband and I are at the point where it's enough.
We're fixing our house up to try and sell it.
I have family in the Buffalo NY area, we're gonna look for jobs there, and try and move somewhere that's in spitting distance of Canada.
I know the liberal plea is to stay and fight and not surrender your state to the right wingers, but the truth is the Democratic party surrendered indiana to the GOP after 2008 and made no attempt to hold onto it.
We're not waiting for the proud boys to show up and Lynch us, we're fleeing like the refugees in our own country we're about to be.
To all the allocishet folks on here. Please, wake up and realize that you may have to refurbish your basement to hide your queer friends from the inquisition that's coming. Trans folks are the tip of the wedge, the right is coming for all us queer folks and they don't want us back in the closet this time, they just want us dead. ~

(10,156 posts)I'm transgender and I live in the reddest voting district in Texas. I'm constantly walking around with a target on me. I'd move if the chance was there. But it isn't simple to do so. So I carry a gun to protect myself and remain to fight

(2,823 posts)what the laws were like in Ukraine. Obviously, I'm too old to fight... but I wondered if I could go and lend assistance to help the ones who are fighting... even help rescue animals, or help feed, walk, etc., the animals who have been rescued. I'd be willing to give up citizenship to a country that sees me as a 2nd or 3rd class citizen with rights less than those of a dead person, if another country that would accept me would see me as a 1st class citizen.
Maybe if the U.S. sees a great drain of not only trans and queer folk, but of a great brain, POC, and gender drain, maybe then they might do something about rescuing the freedom of all its citizens. Something has to wake up the PTB that there's more than an economy to rescue around here.

(4,733 posts)people self segregate into like minded communities (ie big cities) with relatively small geographic footprints. Several 80%+ D districts leave lots more competitive 55/45 districts available.
