Trumpism attempts to change Christian doctrine, theology and subvert churches
https://signalpress.blogspot.com/2022/05/the-subversion-of-christian-church.htmlConservative Evangelical Christians insist that the Bible is without error, and infallible, and they interpret it from a literal perspective, leading to what they call "absolutes" or distinctives in doctrine that are unchangeable. But apparently, they haven't done a great job of convincing all of their church members of the absolute nature of these interpretations, because Trumpism is making an attempt to change some of the core teachings of Jesus himself, such as turning the other cheek, loving your enemies and demonstrating the veracity of your faith by putting the needs of others ahead of your own. Those are direct instructions from Jesus, recorded in the gospel accounts. But Trumpism says they're no good for getting ahead in this world.
We've turned the other cheek, and I understand, sort of, the biblical reference--I understand the mentality--but it's gotten us nothing. OK? It's gotten us nothing while we've ceded ground in every major institution in our country."--Donald Trump, Jr.
And there, wrapped up in one single quote, in context, is the theology of Trumpism. Following Jesus will get you nothing. Several of the apostles, most notably Jude, write warnings about this sort of thing happening. And yet, here, in twenty first century American Christianity, we have an egregious example.

(36,829 posts)Would believe Trump over Jesus for credibility...
Trump has the backing of millions of Christians/evangelicals.

About 2:55 on the timeline.
"Let me tell you," he continued. "If Jesus Christ gets down off the cross and told me Trump is with Russia, I would tell him, hold on a second, I need to check with the president if it is true. That is how confident I feel in the president."

(19,204 posts)the religious-wrong is going to realize they've made a deal with a real-world satan.
They've wanted an abortion ban for so long, and TFG delivered by stealing two Supreme Court Justices from Democrats to do it. They're actually naive enough to believe TFG is on their side, that he's a good, holy man.
Many older republicans are in the same boat. They believe Trumpism is a necessary evil that will be put on the back burner after their conservative wet dream is realized. Again,
These people are too full of themselves to realize that everything TFG does has one goal in mind: Him. They believe they're bending TFG to fit their needs. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Trump will grind them all up and spit them out when he's finished with them. He needs them to get back into the White House before he can be held accountable for his innumerable criminal offenses.
They're idiots.

(35,320 posts)No, I didn't say he quotes Nietsche; it's already highly improbable he even knows who Nietsche was.
Xianity made Western thought weak, pathetic. Elevating submission and forgiveness like that. Nature is a struggle for power. That had a huge influence on later thinkers. And idjits. (Put Putin in that category, but he's channeling Stalin as much as Nietsche.)

(9,815 posts)But I am not going to argue theology!!
My theory is that with waning influence (and dollars!) the TVangelists made a pact with oligarchs and politicians for secular power.
And they are riding racism, the customary go-to of would-be tyrants and their hangers-on.
Makes a nifty four horsemen.
It's a long-term plot.
DKos has an excellent series on this, which I recommend.

(3,861 posts)symbolizes the idea perfectly.
How is it that a fat guy with a fake comb-over, perpetual scowl who can't string a coherent sentence together can even get one person's vote for president?
