I think about this a lot: in today's media environment, Nixon would survive Watergate unscathed.

doesn't mention is that the RW built its media machine *in response to* Watergate, precisely to prevent accountability in the future.

(6,291 posts)was all about creating the media made mindset in advance.
That all was ignored by urban people. We liberals living/working in hate radio dominated areas have been sounding the alarm since the 80s. OMG!!!!! I really dont know if it there is any hope.
The mindset is so deeply entrenched now.

(28,265 posts)You old-timers, think back on the stunning naivete of the 1970's---back when we foolish liberals believed we would never, ever have to deal with a worse president than Richard Nixon, and that a free, principled press would be our salvation. Think of Nixon's final, shameful helicopter departure from the White House---and ask yourself if you believe trump will ever pay anything close to such a penalty for the things he's done. I believe trump gets away with minimal punishment.
