'It's the high-capacity magazines, stupid'

I had high hopes that the bipartisan committee working on gun issues would be the beginning of baby steps toward creating sensible gun laws to reduce the carnage that prevails in our country. Those hopes were dashed when Sen. John Cornyn was repeatedly booed at the State Republican Convention in Houston last Friday because the Republicans said reforms will violate their “God-given rights.”

Sen. Ted Cruz wants to turn our schools into fortresses. What is he going to do for school buses? What is to prevent a shooter from shooting the driver and then shooting the children who don't have a means to escape. That can also happen in stores, churches and any venue where people gather.

The answer is blowing in the wind; “It’s the high-capacity magazine, stupid!”

-snip-

Excluding police and the military, make it a felony to posses a magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds. It could be called “The Children Killer Magazine Law.”

Gun ownership is a sign of mental illness, if you own many guns, you are a very sick person. n/t spike jones Jun 2022 #6
You do realize that millions of Democrats own firearms right? MarineCombatEngineer Jun 2022 #7
Yes, I do. Millions of Democrats also don't vote, and I accuse them of being unpatriotic. n/t spike jones Jun 2022 #9

gives people time to run, better hide, and for there to be physical interruption. Every law enforcement officer and public health expert agrees that that is key.

or bring down a deer then I shouldn't own a weapon. If more than 2 people are trying to break into my house, then I need to go into hiding because I must have pissed off some gang.

When I bought my guns in the 1990s we were still governed by the federal statute limiting magazine size to 10 rounds. I didn't have a problem with the law then and I wouldn't now. I would still like to see military-style rifles taken off the streets.

there were still millions of HC mags available for sale during that time.

New HC mags couldn't be manufactured, but existing ones were still widely available, they just cost a little bit more.

but the extended mags were never outlawed by the 94 AWB, just the man. of new ones or the importation of HC mags.

Ban them all. Even in hunting, which I've done a lot of. Anything more than a single shot is just an ammo carrier. No one is going to recover from the recoil, reacquire the target lead and down a shoot at a moving target. Fuck the gun humpers, there are a lot more fun hobbies. Being an expert in rifle and shot gun I switched to wildlife photography and it's a hell of a lot more challenging.
