Liz Cheney Wins the GOP's Manhood Contest

Hawley’s speech did not take note of how thoroughly masculine virtues, under this definition, have been diluted within his own Republican Party during the Trump era.

Nor did he cite the figure who is the most vivid counterexample. The person who is the most credible answer to the GOP’s manhood problem is a woman: Liz Cheney.

Wyoming’s lone congresswoman is widely loathed by acolytes of Donald Trump. Certainly Hawley has not sought to join her in confronting the former president or demanding accountability for the ways his claims of election fraud led to the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol. But it would be hard to argue that Cheney does not represent “courage, and independence and assertiveness.”

I want to be clear that I'm not a huge Liz Cheney fan, and I don't consider her to be a "hero" for simply doing the right thing (upholding her oath to country over party).

I'm a huge fan of the idea that her party is bemoaning the loss of "masculinity" in society--yet she's the only GOPer running for re-election in the House of Representative that has "a pair."

Never ever thought I’d be thinking “you go Liz Cheney”, what a weird feeling. But you have to grudgingly give credit to her and Kissinger for doing the right thing at this point, quite unique for the Republicans in the 21st Century.

I see too many comments online warning Dems that Cheney is NOT our friend. It's like the gap in political beliefs should preclude us from having anything nice to say about how impressive she has been throughout the J6 hearings. Any Repub doing the right thing these days is a BFD since so damn few of them are capable/willing to do it in the Trump era. There's a price to be paid for standing up to Trump and Cheney has paid dearly.

...at least it was meant to be nice. I said she's the only GOPer running for re-election in the House of Representatives that "has a pair." And I said that in recognition of her work on the J6 Committee.

Showing what a farce the myth of the west really is.

A lot of those cowerboys think that by their trade alone they should be revered as manly.

Not a fan of Liz either but, because she is fighting the cult, I am thankful for her input. Some women in the interior west are far better examples of the toughness found in western lifestyles than most of the men.

Historically, the Euro-American men weren't doing so well in surviving in this landscape until they included women whom they relied on for more than they'll admit.
