Zelenskiy rebukes Amnesty for accusing Ukraine of endangering civilians
A report by Amnesty International accusing the Ukrainian army of endangering civilians has drawn criticism from western diplomats, including the British and US ambassadors to Ukraine, as the countrys president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, attacked its findings.
The report accused the Ukrainian military of putting civilians at risk by positioning themselves in residential areas, saying that soldiers should not be basing themselves in empty schools or repurposing civilian buildings in urban areas as it meant the Russians would target them and civilians would be caught up in the crossfire.
But critics say the report was poorly researched and put together. They argue that the report ignores Ukraines wartime realities and draws moral equivalence between Russia, the aggressor, and Ukraine, the victim.

This is what being in a free society is all about. It's never going to be perfect or harmonious in a messy thing like modern warfare

It's really a shame, because Amnesty International does important work. Agnes Callamard needs to go.

(3,866 posts)The Ukrainian Army isn't the aggressor. So let's get the perspective right here. It's their country. They have the right to defend it as they see fit.
Someone at Amnesty needs to get some perspective and do a little bit of realistic thinking before opening their mouth and inserting their foot.
