After news broke that the FBI searched former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida on Monday, his supporters openly called for an armed violent response, and ultimately, civil war.

“Civil War 2.0 just kicked off,” one user wrote on Twitter, with another adding, “One step closer to a kinetic civil war.” Others said they were ready to take part: “I already bought my ammo.”

MAGA, QAnon, and far-right message boards and Telegram channels lit up Monday night with calls for a violent response to what some extremists see as a political attack directed by the Biden administration.

“This is how you light the match to a civil war,” one user on Twitter wrote in response to the news.

Trumpists were just a hyped up minority looking for attention who would not show up was on a DU thread on Jan 4, 2021. I took the opposing view and said that there are many well armed and well trained former military and former police, backed by money and politicians, who would carry out violence on behalf of Trump.

I do not understand people who refuse to see threats in front of them and insist on downplaying them. We have known for months that, as things get worse for Trump in investigations and possible arrest and indictment, that his followers would react violently. They made threats prior to J6 and those were not just talk, but a prelude to action.

They will get violent. Count on it. How violent, how well organized, I don't know. But they will certainly try something.

it is not mandatory. Treason is very narrowly defined in the constitution as giving aid or comfort to a foreign US enemy in time of war.

Regarding your last paragraph, the mob that attacked Capitol and DC police did not look to me like loudmouths who would fold like cheap suits. They were carrying out hand to hand fighting, gouging people's eyes, stabbing them with flagpoles turned spears, and beating them with fists, stolen police shields, and anything else they could use as weapons.

If the Capitol and DC police had fired guns at the insurrectionists, several of the attackers were carrying weapons on them. Others had stashes in trucks, in the event that it became a shoot out. There were bombs stored in the area.

I agree that, as a group, insurrectionists could be easily defeated by the US military in open warfare. But there are a few things to consider when assessing the damage that insurrectionists could cause. One is that several current, active police and military are members of the kinds of militia groups that promote civil war. That includes the National Guard, too, which had to be vetted to remove insurrection sympathizers prior to Biden's inauguration.

Another consideration is that these militia groups use terrorist and guerrilla tactics. So they can attack a target and be gone before any police or military arrive. They could disrupt Internet service at targeted places, bring down a power grid in a city, assassinate a mayor, legislator, judge, etc. before anyone could stop them.

They can quickly and easily blend in with the general population after carrying out an attack. Our military and police who remain loyal to their oath would not know who to go after.

Depending on how well organized these groups are in planning strategic attacks, they could do a lot of damage for a long time in deaths and disruptions of government and society.

I stand by what I said. The rioters at the capitol were acting boldly because the police were not shooting the fucks, which had they done so the crowd would have stampeded in the opposite direction, leaving lots of people trampled. Yes, the police were undermanned and overwhelmed so it was a good idea not to use their weapons in that situation.
The military, however, would not be constrained. These tough guy insurrectionists would pee on themselves and start crying for mercy.
I would never say, “bring it on”, but if they did they would pay a very steep price.
