J.D.Vance comment that women should stay in unhappy marriages doesn't mesh with pro life claims

J.D. Vance comment that women should stay in unhappy marriages doesn’t mesh with pro life claims

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- As a candidate for admission to the Ohio Bar who worked with survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, I am sickened by J.D. Vance’s most recent act of victim shaming.

At Pacifica Christian High School, Vance accused divorce of making children unhappy and suggested that women should stay in unhappy and even dangerous relationships.

To the contrary, studies have shown that children who experience violence in the home are at a higher risk of poor mental and physical health outcomes even if the children themselves are not physically harmed by an abusive parent.

To justify his comments, Vance said “domestic violence has skyrocketed in recent years” because of the “decline” of the institution of heterosexual marriage. As someone who has studied domestic violence and advocated for survivors, this “skyrocketing” in cases is not because we progressives do not value the institution of marriage. Rather, it is because violence within the home was historically ignored and viewed as a private family matter until us feminists made it a public issue.

Women should stay in unhappy marriages == has always been the Roman Catholic position on divorce, though they usually don't put it quite that way.

Young women who have to drop out of school because of unwanted pregnancies will have fewer job opportunities and lower earning power.

Women with many children will have a difficult time supporting them as a single mom.

Many women have no support system. Many women are not strong enough to fight back.

Men know if they start regulating penises or sperm, they will have WWIII on their hands.

Women they can bully, harass, stalk, place under draconian control and subjugation with no pushback.

About how boys who regularly witness domestic violence in the home grow up thinking violence against women is okay or not a real big deal. Vance is living proof of this.

Progressives value marriage, we do not condone violence against women.

How does Vance think he’s going to get even one vote from a woman?

Women were property of their fathers or husband.

Women were only valuable for producing heirs or farmhands.
And keeping house and providing a sex partner who could not say no.

Believe it or not, women vote for these kind of men.
Perhaps they grew up in anti-female households and see it as normal.

I wish they’d crawl back down into the holes they came from.

Instead, they’ve been liberated, affirmed, and empowered. They’re like a new plague.
