Two things on the Student Loans
I do think that reinstating loan payments would cool some of the inflation. Hold on...
First I know a lot of people basically have a car loan payment that they really can’t afford. I still have a loan because I was stupid, careless, between jobs, and I couldn’t afford it. I’ve been paying for 13 years and may some get forgiveness due to public service.
I also realize that price gouging for food and gas (getting their 202 money back) fuels most of the inflation.
This was a campaign promise but it’s also really smart politics. The midterms are less than 80 days away. Yes the media will fan the “people are mad!” flames but giving away cash right before an election is gold politically. Trump had an option for another COVID stimulus check weeks before the 202 election but didn’t do it. From what I’ve read Mitch talked him out of it. That was really stupid. Basically handing someone cash as they walk into the voting booth and doing it legally was a once in a lifetime opportunity. This shows how much smarter Biden is.
Lastly - we talked to my Fox News watching Mom tonight. Both of us very nicely had our talking points ready. She asked if my wife was MAD that she’d paid off her loans. I countered with the PPP loan forgiveness including Empty Greene ($180k) and my Mom asked “Is she one of ‘The Crew’?” Apparently Fox News is putting that out there. No idea if it true. Supposedly $175K in PPP loans.
