A Republican state congressman in Florida raised eyebrows when he shared a quote from fascist Spanish dictator Francisco Franco on Twitter.
On Thursday, Anthony Sabatini a member of the Florida House of Representatives shared a quote to his Twitter page from Franco, who ruled Spain from 1939 until 1975.
I answer only to God and to History, Mr Sabatini wrote, quoting the dictator, who seized power after winning the Spanish Civil War.
Some said they found it shocking that an elected representative would quote one of the 20th centurys most notorious figures. Mark Yzaguirre, a lawyer, said "admiring a fascist dictator offends God and History."

WESH 2 News is hearing from state House leaders on calls for a representative of Lake County to resign from his office at the Capitol over a blackface photo.
The Florida Democratic Party called on Gov. Ron DeSantis and House Speaker Jose Oliva to ask Republican Rep. Anthony Sabatini to step down over a photo they said is racist.
Sabatini told WESH 2 News the photo is from 2005 and shows him in a costume contest in high school, where he dressed up as his best friend.
Sabatini said he meant no harm then, and is sorry for anyone who takes offense now, but said the photo is much different than other photos surfacing recently that show other politicians in blackface, given his age at the time.

(15,392 posts)But new rule: Quoting a dictator, murderer, etc. is not a good look.
My other new rule is: If you're going to campaign at a fair, do not get anything on a stick. Photographers are just waiting for you to bite into whatever it is, and you're not going to look good especially if it's a corndog. Get something you can easily pop in your mouth or eat with a fork/spoon.
