Whites now more likely to die from covid than Blacks: Why the pandemic shifted

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2022/10/19/covid-deaths-us-race/

Over time, the gap in deaths widened and narrowed but never disappeared — until mid-October 2021, when the nation’s pattern of covid mortality changed, with the rate of death among White Americans sometimes eclipsing other groups

“We’re Republicans, and 100 percent believe that it’s each individual’s choice — their freedom” when it comes to getting a coronavirus shot, Hollie said in January. “We decided to err on the side of not doing it and accept the consequences. And now, here we are in the middle of planning the funeral.”

“Usually, when we say a health disparity is disappearing, what we mean is that … the worse-off group is getting better,” said Tasleem Padamsee, an assistant professor at Ohio State University who researched vaccine use and was a member of the Ohio Department of Health’s work group on health equity. “We don’t usually mean that the group that had a systematic advantage got worse.”

“Black men described precisely the same medical and economic stressors as did White men and detailed the same struggles to stay healthy,” Metzl wrote. “But Black men consistently differed from White men in how they conceived of government intervention and group identity. Whereas White men jumped unthinkingly to assumptions about ‘them,’ Black men frequently answered questions about health and health systems through the language of ‘us.’ ”

I have been reading David McCullough's "The Great Bridge" and the man who started the Brooklyn Birdge
John Robeling, died of lock jaw aka tetanus because he didn't let his doctors treat his injured foot using
"germ theory" by using chemicals such as alcohol or carbolic acid to stop infection from setting in. I
started reading about the bacteria that causes lock jaw and just how common it is. Clostridium tetani
is every where but people get tetanus shots which is a vaccine and less then 20 to 30 people per year
in Americas die from lock jaw and almost every one had not gotten a tetanus shot.

... biology & medical science became "hosts" to the C-19 virus where it did what viruses do
and mutated to new and different strains which the vaccines were less effective in combating
and even if "the dill weed host" died they could passed on the new variant the covid virus.

We should have had "this thing" well behind us by now but people like DeSantis, Trump,
Abbott, Noem, Fox News, and so on turned a public health/medical science issue into a
political/right vs left ideological wedge issue and spread misinformation about what should
be a straight forward problem.

Right now Fox News and DeSantis are spreading fear and misinformation about the side
effects of the new vaccine which is made to counter the new strains of the disease and
those mouth breathers will not get vaccinated.

sorry to
