Litman: The GOP wants to burn down the Justice Department

Almost as soon as Atty. Gen. Merrick Garland announced the appointment of a special counsel to provide independent, nonpartisan oversight of criminal investigations related to Donald Trump, Republicans started screaming.

The appointment in itself, they said, demonstrated the Department of Justice’s corruption and politicization. But be assured, if Garland hadn’t named a special counsel, they would have screamed bloody murder as well.

An “outrage,” harrumphed Trump, predictably. But more tellingly, the new Republican majority fell right in line.

The GOP House Judiciary Committee faction, which will be charged with overseeing the Justice Department in the coming Congress, tweeted that "Jack Smith and his buddies have been politicizing Washington for AGES. And he's who AG Garland picked to be the special counsel to ‘investigate’ President Trump? Come on."

I trust the slow and sloggy overregulated post office and VA, than the slick for profit corporateers who would dump every last piece of waste and garbage into the water and sky if they weren’t forced not to.

But according to the pundits, the Qpublican party were breaking away from the Orange Buffoon. Not surprised they all fell in line.

wanted, but had to show some restraint for common decency. Trump’s presidency removed all restraints and incivility and public nastiness is the result. These people will not go back to being decent human beings because they were never decent human beings.

Justice matters.

if Smith sees indictable evidence and he was there with their hair furhair in person for months, and he even covered up his obstruction-of-justice crimes himself...

the GQP House committees won't be able to meddle in the investigations, since the Special Counsel doesn't report to Congress (as does the AG), if I understand what's going on here.

No wonder they're pissed off! They'll shit down the J6 Committee, and won't be able to shut down Jack Smith!

As Nelson from "The Simpsons" would say, "Ha, ha!"

How many knew the plan to get rid of Pence... likely by any means necessary.

Who disabled the panic buttons? Who gave unauthorized tours to insurrectionist? Who leaked which windows aren't reinforced to oaf creepers, proud boys, 3 percentile IQ groups?

The louder they scream, the more criminally involved they likely are.

treason and to other high crimes with impunity. Even Barr backed won in the end. Our democracy's complex system of checks and balances has managed to survive a malicious series of attacks on the country's foundation. It also give moderate Republicans cowering in the shadows a reason to stand up for something.
