Connecticut Senate passes bill banning child marriage

Jun 2, 2023 / 06:23 PM EDT

"
A bill that would ban marriage for anyone under the age of 18 in Connecticut received unanimous Senate approval on Friday.

House Bill 6569 would ban anyone under 18 from getting married – and there would be no exceptions.

The House passed the bill by a 98-45 vote on May 3.

House Bill 6569 is now headed to Gov. Ned Lamont’s desk for final approval.

I doubt this will stop teens. Teens can be rebels.

They passed those laws in the last few years.

There are a total of 8 states with the ban. Conn. will be the 9th.

The main reason is abuse of girls, 16-17 years old in most states, and younger in some states, such as Michigan. These girls have few legal rights, and are often pressured by a parent into marrying an older man. Some reasons include money, rape, incest, avoiding custody battles, and/or pregnancy.
