'No Labels' Group - Stay Out of 2024 Election For the Sake of Democracy: Conservative Strategist

- 'No Labels should stay out of the 2024 election: conservative,' AlterNet, Nov. 14, 2023. Ed.

The No Labels movement is quick to point out that according to polling data, millions of Americans are fed up with the 2-party system and would welcome a major alternative to Republicans & Democrats. But critics of No Labels, including Never Trump conservatives like The Lincoln Party's Rick Wilson, often respond that if No Labels acts as a spoiler in 2024 and Trump returns to the White House in 2025, there won't be a U.S. democracy for No Labels to compete in.

Conservative strategist Sarah Longwell, like Wilson, is a Never Trumper who is supporting President Biden in the 2024 election. In an article published by The Bulwark on Nov. 13, Longwell argues that for the sake of U.S. democracy itself, No Labels should stay out of the 2024 race. "If anyone were the target audience for No Labels' $70M gambit to recruit and run a 'unity' 3rd-party ticket with a moderate Republican- former Md. Gov. Hogan- and moderate Democrat, Sen. Manchin, it would be me, Longwell writes.

"But after conducting hundreds of focus groups with voters across the political spectrum, it's clear to me that a unity ticket in 2024 isn't just fantastical, it's dangerous. A centrist unity ticket appeals to exactly one demographic: swing voters who will decide the outcome of the 2024 election." Longwell goes on to emphasize that a likely Biden/Trump rematch would be a close election, and No Labels- according to focus groups - could easily swing the election to Trump by acting as a spoiler.

Longwell argues, "Giving the American people more choice in the short term isn't worth putting Trump back in power and degrading American democracy in the long term…

- (Wiki). No Labels is an American political organization whose stated mission is to support centrism and bipartisanship through what it calls the "commonsense majority". No Labels was founded in 2010 as a 501(c) by Board President and CEO Nancy Jacobson, and in 2021, its strategy shifted toward running a third-party 2024 "unity" presidential ticket...

I don't think they'll be the least bit alarmed by the the thought that they might succeed.

and mislead or even frustrate voters who aren’t being vigilant or taking time to do their homework on issues like this.

They WANT to discourage voters cuz a discouraged voter is more likely to throw up his/her hands and say “a pox on both your houses” and not vote. There’s a strategy lurking here.

at work knowing that many people are not that politically literate and well informed about the positions of the candidates and the platforms of the 2 main political parties. Much less independent and third party options.

It's a lot and can be overwhelming and discouraging as you say. Forget it ! Plus it's a very serious time of division and conflict in America with democracy in danger. Very high stakes.
