Illinois judge who reversed rape conviction removed from bench after panel finds he circumvented law

Updated 2:00 PM EST, February 24, 2024

CHICAGO (AP) — An Illinois judge who sparked outrage by reversing a man’s rape conviction involving a 16-year-old girl has been removed from the bench after a judicial oversight body found he circumvented the law and engaged in misconduct.

The Illinois Courts Commission removed Adams County Judge Robert Adrian from the bench Friday after it held a three-day hearing in Chicago in November on a compliant filed against Adrian.

Its decision says Adrian “engaged in multiple instances of misconduct” and “abused his position of power to indulge his own sense of justice while circumventing the law.”

The commission could have issued a reprimand, censure or suspension without pay, but its decision said it had “ample grounds” for immediately removing Adrian from the bench in western Illinois’ Adams County.

(and if the courts have any interest in regaining trust and respect - we should see a lot more ...)
Unfortunately 95% of them are just a whole lot smarter than this guy. You really have to trip over your own d*ck pretty hard ...

I thought at the time, "Wow, that Judge sounds like a real [insert expletive of your choice]! So glad to hear he got the comeuppance he so richly deserved!

Sounds like the current Supreme Court----indulging in their own sense of justice, as well as doing what their bosses pay them to do.

because of no double jeopardy?

I know that prosecuting attorneys have had this happen.

If a prosecuting attorney is found guilty of misconduct and removed, EVERY conviction he/she has done is now suspect and may be overturned and EVERY person convicted potentially set free.

What about this judge? Will every judgment he rendered for say, the past 4 or 5 years, or whatever, now come under question and every defendant either have their case re-tried, convictions overturned, or overturns voided?

He did serve 148 days in jail, so I don't know if he'll be put on the sex offenders list or not.
