Ex-Judge: How I Lost Faith in the U.S. Supreme Court

By Michael Fox

I’ve trusted the Supreme Court since I first began to understand what the law was about. I trusted the Court during the Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Nixon administrations. I trusted the Justices appointed by Presidents Reagan, Clinton, Bush II, and Obama.

But I’ve lost that trust in the last year. I’m now suspicious of almost any decision they publish. The purpose of our judicial system is to interpret and apply the law to individual cases, both criminal and civil, in an even-handed manner so that those before the court will receive “Equal Justice Under Law,” as is emblazoned above the portico to the United States Supreme Court.

-snip-

But the U.S. Supreme Court was “different.” Over the years, I’ve felt that the Supreme Court Justices applied the law equally to all parties: injustices were undone; and the Court carried out its duties with clarity and dignity. But now, in 2024, all that has changed. The change has come gradually, but is now complete. Decisions in the past few weeks have shown that this Court will do virtually anything to enable Donald J. Trump to again take office as President.

-snip-

But then came Trump’s claim that his actions as President may not be the subject of criminal prosecution, because presidents, unique among all residents of the United States, are “immune” from criminal prosecution. This contention has no legal basis whatsoever, and is patently absurd. No one outside the Trump legal cabal has supported this idea.

3. You need to give Richard Pryor credit for the phrase "just us"

His line was, "Who said there's no justice for black people? Go see who's in jail, just us."

Maybe Pryor wasn't the first to say it but he's the first I heard it from.

Wade decision, plus other shockers.

I'm a serious fan of increasing the size of the Supreme Court, if these nine Justices (and not all of them are biased) continue this, persists in doing this, overturning every single decision made over decades and decades before because some rich person or some rich entity decided that they didn't like current law. What's next, collecting taxes? Or paying Social Security? Common sense things don't seem to make any sense w/ the six of nice thugs that sit on the Court. They promised not to stir things up, and they've already lied, big time.

We have control of the Senate, almost that of the House if republican defections continue, and the Exec. branches of government. Expand the Supreme Court, if anything, to ensure the smooth continuity of our current laws in this Country, and prevent the partisan jury-rigging of the system that is happening.

Ever see the presentation by Senator Whitehouse about how the Roberts court overwhelmingly has favored corporate interests over the rights of everyday people in their decisions????

They have been bought and that happened years ago!

their hand in glove with the NAR and what it stands for. Check the "variation" of religions represented. It's so freaking obvious to not see it is to be willfully blind. They're helping them to turn this country into an fascist theocracy... and I think many of them are doing it out of a sense of personal conviction. They're afraid not to do it, lest them be turned into a pillar of salt!
