How Much Longer Are We Supposed to Live With This Stress?

Julie Roginsky

How much longer are we expected to live in a state of constant, utter stress?

I am long past the point of expecting the government to help me. At this stage, I would settle for something far more modest: I want it to leave me alone. I want it to stop stressing me out. I want it to stop making me fear for my family’s safety every single day because a bunch of unstable men with guns now get to wear badges and threaten the rest of us at taxpayer expense.

The people who have spent the entirety of their lives telling us that they needed to be armed to the teeth to fight against tyrannical government are now lecturing the rest of us that when a guy with no insignia tells us to get out of the car, we better comply in the interest of — checks notes — “homeland security.”

Really?

If someone is pointing a gun at me because I happened to drive down the wrong street, I don’t feel secure in my homeland. I feel menaced by my government. I feel like the same politicians and right-wing media figures who once screamed “Liberty” as easily as they breathed are now twisting themselves into knots to justify the cold-blooded killing of a woman whose crime was peacefully opposing what she believed to be government overreach.

we are paying the price for thousands of people who didn't vote, hundreds of thousands of people who don't know how the government works and what the Constitution is, thousands of people who don't understand civic duty and hundreds of thousands of people that don't understand that a less than perfect democracy is so much better that a corrupt fascist government.....

Relying upon them to learn is futile.

People will have to live with it.

At the least, do not obey in advance.
