Democratic candidate Shawn Harris, a retired brigadier general who earned over 30% of the vote against Marjorie Taylor Greene in 2024, says he now wears a bulletproof vest due to threats as he runs again for Georgia’s 14th congressional district amid a crowded Republican field.

ROME, Ga. — When former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene sat in front of the camera and announced she was resigning in January, she said threats of violence against herself and her children had gone on long enough.

She blamed the escalation on the president's remarks, including calling her Marjorie "Traitor" Greene..............

More than a dozen candidates are running to replace her in Georgia's 14th congressional district, including one Democrat who knows the ropes.

"Marjorie Taylor Greene was dealing with threats. I'm already dealing with the threats right now," Harris told USA Today in an interview on Thursday, ahead of the president's visit to Rome, Georgia.


"We get those threats because people know that we got the potential to win this thing," Harris said. "We will not let people tell us to stop or scare us or anything. What I say to everybody, because they know I have to wear it now, is courage is contagious.
