Bernie Sanders wants us to listen to tech execs

The progressive doesn't trust the CEOs, but he's watching them closely

“What some very knowledgeable people are saying is that the AI and robotics being developed by these multibillionaires today will allow corporate America to wipe out tens of millions of good-paying jobs, cut labor costs and boost profits for the corporate world,” Sanders said, before getting into specifics.

He referenced an October quote from xAI CEO Elon Musk: “AI and robots will replace all jobs. Working will be optional.” He cited a Bill Gates comment that we won’t need humans “for most things.” Microsoft AI’s Mustafa Suleyman, Sanders noted, recently said most white-collar work will “be fully automated by an AI within the next 12 to 18 months.”

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei got a shoutout too, with Sanders saying, “Amodei wrote that recent breakthroughs had made it clear that we are only a few years away from the point when ‘AI is better than humans at essentially everything.’”

“Now, are these guys right? Are they hyping it? I don’t know. You don’t know. Nobody knows,” he said. “But these are smart guys who have made huge investments in AI and robotics, and we should listen carefully to what they are saying.”

just for the profits they earn. They always promise more than they can deliver! But stripping people of jobs... people aren't going to just go away and die of starvation, I hope he realizes. Further, there are a LOT of people who take great satisfaction from doing their jobs and doing it correctly. When you get more and more hungry people out there, and they see who are the only ones who have money, well... I sure wouldn't want to be one of those billionaires. I don't think there's a gated community out there than can keep out a REAL mob of hungry, irate citizens!
