Our leaders ought to be in Washington for one reason only: to serve their communities. And every tough decision or tough vote should lead them to ask “what’s best for the folks back home?” If their values are clear, then their choices are pretty easy.
But often these days, we’re disappointed and infuriated to see so many House Republicans throwing hard-earned benefits like Social Security and Medicare under the bus or making drastic cuts to things we hold dear, fully knowing that it will hurt families and communities.
No matter the kind of creative storytelling that Karoline Leavitt weaves at the press briefing podium, what they want to do is drain the public sphere of the things that make this country livable.
