'The newest book on the Trump White House paints a genuinely sinister picture'
(MS NOW) Regime Change the new book from New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan is the latest in a very long line of books promising a behind-the-scenes look at a presidency. Their book has only a few of the dishy details one often finds in these volumes. But as readers learn about the dynamic between President Donald Trump and the loyalists who surround him, a genuinely sinister picture emerges. The president has finally created an administration that works exactly how he wants it to, and the result is a vicious cycle of incompetence and moral corruption.
In short, everything about how the White House operates exacerbates Trumps most pernicious instincts and character flaws. His aides enable him to be the worst version of himself, and in turn he makes them the worst version of themselves.
The result is an administration full of people who either agree with Trumps most self-destructive impulses or know that objections are all but pointless.
Thats not to say Regime Change is bereft of gossipy anecdotes. Haberman and Swan write that in his bedroom, Trump would frequently leave an array of empty potato chip bags, Starbucks wrappers, and ice cream cartons in the trash, or on the floor, and for some reason was sometimes throwing out White House sterling silver utensils. We also learn that Trumps hearing has declined hardly surprising for someone who just turned 80 and that is why joint press conferences with visiting dignitaries or other leaders are now often held in the Oval Office rather than the larger East Room.
But the big story is in the cocoon of sycophancy Trump has built around himself, with dire consequences for the country.

Surrounded by blind partisan hacks and sycophantic loyalists, there is no one to check Trumps despotic authoritarianism.
And with Congressional Republicans unwilling to remove Trump and a Supreme Court dominated by conservative ideologues in support of the Imperial Presidency and unitary executive dogma, the country will remain subject to the capricious, sinister whims of a dangerous megalomaniac unfit to hold any public office.

President Donald Trump unleashed a lengthy attack on journalist Maggie Haberman at midnight Saturday over a new book about him, dismissing the work as fiction and hurling insults at the New York Times reporter who has covered him for years.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had been briefed on the book and was unimpressed, deriding both the project and its author whose name he mangled throughout the post.
"Based on a very quick and boring briefing concerning the Magot Hagerman book about me, it is mostly made up, Fake News, largely fiction, as have been most of the things she has written about me for so many years," Trump wrote.
He went on to belittle Haberman personally while taking credit for her career.
"She is a third rate writer and intellect, who has made a first rate income because of your favorite President, ME," Trump wrote.
The president then ran through a familiar list of grievances, claiming Haberman had been "wrong about me on the Elections," wrong about "the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax," and "wrong about me on just about everything else." He complained that she "continues to spew out garbage, and people continue to buy it."
Trump also disputed a specific element of the reporting, insisting that the book's authors lack evidence they have suggested they possess.
"And they don't have the audio tapes that they imply they have," he wrote. "Just another Margot Con Job!"
trump is really upset about the tapes of the Situation Room meetings that trump did not attend. That tells you trump is worried
