Ted Nugent’s SOTU Invite Is The Best News Gun Control Advocates Have Heard All Week
Ted Nugents SOTU Invite Is The Best News Gun Control Advocates Have Heard All Week
The gun rights community may not be doing itself any favors by giving Ted Nugent a seat at the State of the Union speech Tuesday night.
The outspoken rocker will be a guest of Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX), one of the most vocal opponents of new gun control legislation following the Newtown, Conn., school massacre. But proponents of things like creating universal background checks and other gun regulations predicted on Monday that Nugents appearance will be a boon to their side and make it harder for gun rights advocates to make their case.
If theres better evidence that the NRAs Washington lobbyists have lost their way, I cant think of it, Mark Glaze, director of New York City Mayor Mike Bloombergs Mayors Against Illegal Guns, told TPM Monday. They keep finding new ways to alienate their own members, which is a strange way to run a membership organization.
Glaze and other gun control proponents often point to surveys of gun owners that showed broad support for expanded background checks, the chief post-Newtown goal of gun control advocates and a measure the NRA leadership opposes.

(12,041 posts)1. I agree, Ted Nugent should be the posterboy for why gun control is needed
No sane person would think this guy should be allowed to own guns...
He needs to be hung around the neck of every single person who supports the NRA, if they are going to keep him on their Board of Directors we need to make them defend that decision.

Quite a few right wing nutbags are going off the reservation lately. More than a few have been big fans of Nugent level rhetoric. Makes you wonder how many more McVeighs and Rudolphs there are out there.

Ted Nugent
At the NRA's 2012 annual conference, the Nuge announced, "If Barack Obama becomes the next president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year," prompting a meeting with the Secret Service.

that person would be in jail for a long time, and certainly not allowed anywhere near the president.
This sucks.
