Know your Crazy: Extreme Right Personalities

By Dr. Brian Carr

In mental health it is essential to understand the various types of personalities that you deal with. Based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 4th Edition these personality factors are called “Axis II” categories. Personality features and attributes are resistant to change and may contribute to significant problems in everyday occupational and social functioning.

Environmental factors can cause a growth in dysfunction of a person who harbors a personality disorder. Lack of insight makes it difficult to offer treatment as the individual has a problem in introspection (the ability to think about one’s thinking).

Politics is one such environmental pressure that can bear witness to the instability of the person. In a recent article James Schlarmann describes five types of what I would call “the Extreme Right” Personality. It is important to distinguish these five types (and the category of the Extreme Right) apart from those conservatives who actually seek solutions to our societal problems and are true champions of what the Republican Party once honored.

Mr. Schlarmann details the following five types:

#5. The “Hitler Was a Leftist” Extreme Right Personality

This personality type is frequently found among the Extreme Right that write blogs on Lubbockonline or else post comments. He states:

“Hitler was a right-winger if ever there was one. He believed in building his country’s military might as a means of plumping up the economy and rebuilding the social structure as well. He was a nationalist and more importantly everyone who was awake in 10th Grade European History class knows he was a right-wing fascist. Arguing with people who deny that fact is completely pointless because the only reason they’re re-writing history is to avoid comparisons between their ideologies and Hitler’s.”

#4. The “Slavery Had Little Or Nothing To Do With the Civil War” Extreme Right Personality

Mr. Schlarmann observes that when states started seceding from the Union, they named Lincoln’s election and therefore presumed death of slavery in the country as their primary and usually sole reason for leaving. The covert (and sometimes overt) racism seen in blog articles and posted comments on this site provide multiple examples of the sense of outrage that our president is not “one of us”.

#3. The “All Abortion is Murder of Little Innocent Babies” Extreme Right Personality

His comment is very condemning of these individuals:

“These people are about as apathetic and sociopathic as you can get because they are the folks that would have absolutely zero problem incarcerating a rape victim for aborting her rapists’ baby. It takes a disgusting and inhumane level of depravity to want to re-victimize a woman (or just as likely little girl) who was raped and impregnated — regardless of whether These are the people who deny the importance of the medical viability of the fetus because they know it makes the best case for why the mother’s life is of primary importance.”

#2. The “Rush Is Right” Extreme Right Personality

With a biting humor James offers the concise advice to “just walk away” as there is absolutely no chance that anything will cut through the delusional framework of such a person. Classic tip-offs to this personality include:

• “I was listening to Rush and he said…
• “Rush said…”
• “Rush Limbaugh isn’t a fat, dumb, misogynistic bully profiting on the illogical and irrational fears of a shrinking minority of fundamentalists who hate anyone who doesn’t look and think exactly like they do.”

Rush Limbaugh’s watch isn’t even right one time a day. Ditto-Heads are to be avoided at all costs. I guarantee you that at least 90% of his audience that identifies as “conservative” never expose themselves to even a whiff of an opposing viewpoint, so why bother debating them? If you want to {have} the same experience as debating with a Ditto-Head, just go find any large box, fill it with rocks, put “The Bible”, “Atlas Shrugged,” and a bottle of Oxycontin on top of it. Then scream your head off at the box. It’s the same exact thing as talking with a fan of Rush’s. I promise."

And finally…

#1. The “Racist Birther Dumbstruck” Extreme Right Personality

This personality is the most psychotic and enraging. James offers that:

“All the others you might be able to skate in and out of a conversation with, especially if you get drunk, stoned, or hit yourself with a hammer in in the skull right before you engage with them. The Birthers on the other hand? Honestly, there is no more vile person than the racist hack who genuinely believes Barack Hussein Obama is a Kenyan Socialist planted here by George Soros and the ghost of Saul Alinksy, because they hate the president not out of any ideological disputes, though there are certainly plenty of those."

Anyone who truly, deep-down at the bottom of their heart believes this crazy stuff just simply isn’t worth engaging because the world they live in isn’t ours, never will be ours, and they’ll always be the flies in our ointment as long as we let them stay in our midst.”

I have no doubt that the “usual suspects” will post their repetitive comments later on this blog about how myself and those who offer opposing opinions are Anti-Christian, puppy-kicking, socialist, communist, liberal, baby-killing, drug using, tax evading, Bob Wills hating, wine drinking, Kissed our sister, Oil avoider, Dark Skinned, Alan Alda loving, Gun-Scared, UT supporting, neuron-firing, beef hating, sexually active, welfare moochers who steal from others and don’t work for a living.

Maybe we need to offer up some additional personality types for the extensive pathology that is found right here in Lubbock?

Unfortunately, some of them are family members like my brother who is making plenty of money in the stock market but still thinks that President Obama is a commie.

He barely graduated from high school, thinks right to work laws are great for workers, is against raising the minimum wage because it hurts the job creators ( he makes minimum wage installing windshields and is a 27 year old loser) I was talking with him about how wall street was screwing us over (I've worked in the stock market industry for 30 years after graduating from college with a business degreevand know what I was talking about) but no, he told me I was wrong. At that point I stopped talking to him and walked away. You can 't argue with a stupid and ignorant person. This kid is so filled with hate because he is a graduate of rush limbaugh college he can 't even get a girlfriend.

I liked him when he was a kid and I really liked him but now yuck. He thinks my husband and I are crazy to live in San Francisco and that Phoenix is the best state for hard workers! I invited him to visit us but my husband later told me no, that he was too far gone. My mother in law ( his grandma Told me no one wants him to come to family events because he is a jerk. Such a pitiful sad brainwashed kid and a loser.

And therefore must be correct. One of the best OP's I've had the pleasure of reading.
