Nance Greggs: ODS – Obama Derangement Syndrome

f you believe the following, you are probably suffering from Obama Derangement Syndrome (ODS):

If Obama said it, it’s a lie. When it’s proven to be the truth, he got lucky – because it’s just a crazy coincidence that his lie turned out to be the truth after all. If he knew it was the truth, he would never have said it in the first place.

If Obama makes a speech about a specific issue, he’s just spewing pretty words. If Obama doesn’t speak on a specific issue, he’s trying to hide something. Or he should have spoken about something else entirely, because when he gets specific about one issue, that means he’s ignoring all of the really important issues he should be speaking about – those issues being whatever it was he didn’t mention.

If Obama did it, it must have been the wrong thing to do. When it turns out to have been the right thing to do, then Obama never did it. And if he did do it, he did it the wrong way. It was too little, too late – or it was too much, too soon. It went too far – while, at the same time, it didn’t go far enough. And even if it turns out to have been right, it’s still wrong...

We need the tea party back to fix this. If they get some big, strong rallies going, our friends will snap out of it. Or maybe good Ol bush can start going on meet the press every week and kiss up on David Gregory and scare them into focus.
Obama is not your enemy. I know he hasn't called and RSVP'd for your party, he forgot to call me too. And I'm still waiting for an invitation to one of his parties with Jay and Beyonce, but I'm sure he's sorry about that. I never get anything I want. Except a president who is not an idiot and Obamacare. And the wars ending. And my iPad.
Screw it. I'm American. I get most things I want. Most of us do.

It assumes that the person always disagrees with the President or that disagreement with one or two things implies disagreement with all things. It tries to extrapolate the concept of him always being wrong with those people who criticize justifiably some of his actions/words/positions.

It is quite simply an incorrect assessment of what is really going on in the world. It isn't an "A" or "B" issue. There are many complexities at work that the author ignores to posit political jabs at Republicans.

therefore it is flawless.. and funny because it is so true of many who have chronic ODS.

They become human pretzels in order to rationalize why President Obama is so "bad".

Nance Greggs has been putting out for years.

Identity politics doesn't rely on nuance; black and white suffices.

If a survey/poll shows that the vast majority of Democrats are pleased with Obama’s performance in office, it is skewed, biased, and not to be relied on. If a respected liberal icon speaks favorably about Obama’s actions, someone got to them and forced them to say it. If a long-reviled GOPer slams Obama – well, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Someone got to John Lewis!

If Obama stands up for gay/lesbian rights, he is pandering. If he initiates programs that help the poor and the homeless, he is pandering. If he offers proposals that will strengthen the middle class, he is pandering. And the ACA? Just a blatant attempt to pander to the millions of people who need affordable healthcare, preexisting conditions notwithstanding, and those who actually might die without it. Apparently, the panderer-in-chief has no shame
.
They always have some warped excuse of why PBO isn't actually helping people 'cause he wants to.

You're amazing how you can observe this and come up with the perfect way to write it all down.. and make it funny. Kinda like Jon Stewart would wrap up the horrible things bush would do and make us laugh about it.

There are people who think whatever Obama does is just dandy, and anyone who is concerned about, say, letting the banks off the hook with a 5 dollar fine, or keeping and expanding the collection of internet traffic and every fucking phone call in the country, are purely silly. That's just as bad as the people who thought W was the second coming, regardless of the issues. It leads to the unfortunate, IOKIYO.

To hear those with ODS tell the tale, Obama is too stupid to know that the Republicans are not on his side, too dumb to know he’s in over his head, and way too idiotic to govern a nation. The fact that, under his guidance, the economy has improved, job numbers are up, and the deficit is being reduced at an amazing pace is just – you guessed it! – “dumb luck.” Makes one wonder how such a dumbass was somehow smart enough to get elected – twice.

That was just so well done!

Speed limits and unable to think past a single silly issue. Obama makes decisions on many issues in a day and I might add is doing a very good job.

27. What a steaming pile of fallacy.

"If/Then" does not an argument make. What this sounds like is an attempt to white-wash any who would dare question our democratically-elected officials, as delusional. Need I remind of Michael Savage's book "Liberalism is a mental disorder"? How far is this from that?

Seriously, this utterly negates even the possibilities that either Obama may ever be wrong at some point and that any who would dare question him may ever be correct. This is classic head-in-the-sand, classic denial in the face of utterly overwhelming FACTS regarding Obama's direct destruction of sections of the Constitution (extra-judicial execution of US citizens suspected of terrorism by drone; NDAA section 1021, twice signed by Obama providing for the indefinite detention of US citizens with neither trial nor representation) and more under his "watch".

This also sounds like "anyone who ever questions Obama is always automatically wrong". Can you hear yourselves? Did I miss a sarcasm emoticon somewhere?

Symptoms of denial are to attack any who have opinions or facts differing from your own; to block them out; to gather together in groups to reinforce the delusion and to attempt to force out anyone or anything which differs from the set of beliefs (note: belief, not fact) you've chosen to affirm. This is consensus reality and it has nothing to do with REALity. With very easily-verified facts existing in conflict to your opinions and hopes.

This is the democratic party? It sounds like a cult. Anything challenging the stated belief is driven away, followers gather to reinforce the stated belief.

You are driving away from the democratic party anyone with an IQ over 60. You cannot see that, can you?
