America Totally Discredited -- Paul Craig Roberts
What kind of fool would put himself in that vulnerable position?
Now Obama stands alone, isolated, trying to back away from his threat to attack without authorization from anyone--not from the UN, not from NATO, not from Congress who he ignored--a sovereign country. Under the Nuremberg Standard military aggression is a war crime. Washington has until now got away with its war crimes by cloaking them in UN or NATO approval. Despite these approvals, they remain war crimes.

(3,163 posts)He knows the "red line" rhetoric was an unforced error to begin with, mere blather to make himself look tough, and then when chemical weapons appeared to have been used Cameron and his own advisors sucked him into compounding the error with more tough words about punishment. Then all the rats left the sinking ship and he is sitting there with egg on his face, trying to pretent he doesn't look like an idiot.
His bluff has been called, big time, and he has no clue whatever what to do about it.

(8,559 posts)... are a huge part of the problem here. I hope he'll make some reassessments about his trusted advisory after this is over.
I agree that he's likely feeling uncertain just how to proceed now. The sensible out is simply to cite new evidence "raising doubts," (there's plenty of REAL evidence that could be used this way) and signal that military intervention has been "placed on hold." Then just wait for the media to move on to something else. Still pretty clumsy but much better than launching any kind of attack, even a limited one.

Let's take a quick peek at his notion of sound economic theory:
If you want to understand what is happening to Microsoft, read Atlas Shrugged ... Hank Rearden, inventor of the fabulous Rearden metal, is harassed and blackmailed by unaccountable government until he, like other persecuted businessmen, shrugs and walks away to join John Galt in a passive resistance ... Rand is scathing in her comparisons of the government class with the entrepreneurial class. She could rewrite her story today using real characters ...

Is there some reason for that? I think there is. I think it's because it's much easier to slap a label on someone and use it as a handy means of dismissing anything they may have to offer than it is to construct your own reasoned analysis/argumentation specifically answering what that person has to say.
Sadly, an all too often tactic used by some here for the obvious purpose of stifling meaningful discussion.

(44,228 posts)Demonization of whites is the weapon used by multiculturalists to breakup western civilization. But teaching hatred has other consequences. Demonization has already demoralized some whites, making them ashamed and fearful of their skin color.
By the time whites become political minorities, decades of demonization will have prepared the ground for legislation prohibiting their propagation and, perhaps, assigning them to the gulag as a final solution to the cancer of human history.
That's from a glowing review that he gave to Pat Buchanan's book "Death of the West".

(118,237 posts)who claim that civil rights legislation harms "white" people, are apologists for racism; I despise the rightwing barrage coming from ALEC; and I consider folk, who can't distinguish between Israelis and Jews, and who believe US foreign policy is governed by some Zionist conspiracy, to be the intellectual heirs of a stupid and ugly tradition that includes such masterworks as The Protocols of the Elders of Zion
Roberts manages to meet all those criteria and probably many more
So Roberts doesn't rank high on my list of folk to take seriously: he's a rightwinger, attacking a black liberal President with whatever Roberts finds in his own paw -- and that's some pretty stinky monkey-poo
