Indian outsourcers see business booming as Obamacare kicks in

3 Oct, 2013, 09.58AM IST

MUMBAI: As US President Barack Obama's new health insurance plan takes effect this month, Indian outsourcers handling customer care for insurers there are expecting a big boost in business.

These BPOs are betting on confused customers jamming phone lines and cluttering inboxes seeking clarity on what kind of health coverage they are eligible for, what they need to do to sign up and how much it will cost them.

The landmark overhaul nicknamed Obamacare, which brings an additional 30 million Americans into the health insurance net, is already being targeted by Indian IT services companies, such as Cognizant, Infosys, HCL TechnologiesBSE -0.75 % and Wipro, who are vying to build parts of the technology backbone of online health exchanges that link customers to insurance plans.

The US Department of Health and Human Services estimates that the call centres will receive 42 million calls about the federal marketplaces this year—a daily average of up to 200,000—plus answer 2,400 letters and 740 e-mails, and host 500 web chats daily.

It's never a good idea to have Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, IRS and other Personally Identifiable Information shipped off to the lowest bidder, in a different country where they still shit in the streets. Your tax dollars are helping the economies other countries when they could be used to build much needed jobs on shore, for our own citizens. If you are not outraged, look at our unemployment numbers and wake the F-up!

We live in a mostly, "I got mine," society. People that don't work in the technical industry actually believe there is a shortage of workers, mostly because that is what the MSM is pumping out day after day.

This will all make sense to those with their heads buried in the sand when their credit is destroyed and every personal aspect of their family is posted out on the Internet, and their job has been outsourced. When it's too late... Only then, will they be outraged!

"The massive IT project, he said, has "literally no technical precedent."

This is going on within our borders. I can only imagine what's going on outside of our borders.
