A beautiful letter written by Zelda Williams

"My family has always been private about our time spent together. It was our way of keeping one thing that was ours, with a man we shared with an entire world. But now that’s gone, and I feel stripped bare. My last day with him was his birthday, and I will be forever grateful that my brothers and I got to spend that time alone with him, sharing gifts and laughter. He was always warm, even in his darkest moments. While I’ll never, ever understand how he could be loved so deeply and not find it in his heart to stay, there’s minor comfort in knowing our grief and loss, in some small way, is shared with millions. It doesn’t help the pain, but at least it’s a burden countless others now know we carry, and so many have offered to help lighten the load. Thank you for that.

To those he touched who are sending kind words, know that one of his favorite things in the world was to make you all laugh. As for those who are sending negativity, know that some small, giggling part of him is sending a flock of pigeons to your house to poop on your car. Right after you’ve had it washed. After all, he loved to laugh too…

Dad was, is and always will be one of the kindest, most generous, gentlest souls I’ve ever known, and while there are few things I know for certain right now, one of them is that not just my world, but the entire world is forever a little darker, less colorful and less full of laughter in his absence. We’ll just have to work twice as hard to fill it back up again."

1. Losing a parent is horrible for anyone Losing one to suicide or violence, even worse....

But to lose one with this amount of accompanying public scrutiny, just must be the worse case possible.

All my profound sympathies go to these grown children of Robin Williams. I hope they are likewise comforted by those in the public who are respectfully grieving along with them.

It is a wonderful reminder that Robin is leaving more than his jokes and comedic bits behind - he is leaving behind his children, who will most likely follow in their father's footsteps.

It matters not at all if any of them show his comedic genius. Williams was a guy who stepped to the plate and helped support actor Christopher Reeves' children when they lost both their parents. It is very likely that those amazing character qualities will live on in his kids.

It naturally makes sense that Robin Williams, the funniest man of his generation, who always displayed warmth and kindness and caring to others (it was evident whenever he spoke), would create someone with similar character....Thank you Zelda for writing this letter.

Sad and beautiful. He obviously served as an example in eloquent speech and thought for his kids. This is just beautiful. Zelda - don't know if you'll ever see this - but just know we're all mourning with you. YOUR family DEFINITELY does not mourn alone. Imagine much of the world as so many boxes of Kleenex held out to you while it's being made use of by each of millions of holders.

And also please know, dear Zelda, that we will stand around you like a circular phalanx to help buffer you from the crappy stuff coming at you from some VERY little people. They're a clear and obvious minority.

Zelda, you may have meant that as a nice statement, which it was, but allow me and many others to not only aid you in that endeavour, but to take it as a personal mission. After all, there are a lot of cars that need pigeons to poop on them, and I am ready to start feeding them Pigoens an extra helping of kindness.
