I think the point is that the President is a politician, not a law enforcement official.
We move closer to being a true totalitarian state when the political leader can assassinate whomever he or she deems to be a "terrorist".

My point was that these channels of murder are already in place and have been since before the formation of the FBI

If there is a silver lining in all of this, it is that the sensationalism of the drones is drawing attention to these "channels of murder", which have become the new normal.
