...with Eugene, Oregon.

Many thanks, Mr. President, for your tribute to this great lady, as she secures the place in American History that she deserves.

Here is Eugene's story - On Martin Luther King Day in 2009, Eugene renamed the downtown bus station after Ms. Rose Parks.

The bronze statue, which depicts Parks sitting on a bus seat, is the work of Pete Helzer, the sculptor who created the Ken Kesey statue that stands a couple blocks away.

"What makes the contribution of Rosa Parks more significant and heroic is that when she refused to give up her seat, she had no idea what would happen to her," The Lane Transit District Board president Mike Eyster said. "She had no way of knowing if she would suffer physical harm, incarceration, financial penalty or possibly even death.

"But she did know two things. She knew that she was placing herself at great personal risk, and she knew in her heart that social justice requires that individuals exercise the courage of their convictions."
