The principal was the most culpable for her failure to control the situation before it blew up like this. Calling the police over an unwritten dress code conflict? Tell it it isn't so Ernestine!

Note: Ernestine Sutherland is the principal of the school where this happened.

This is a great video. Even though I am anti-NRA, we have freedom of expression by the 1st Amendment and this is just ridiculous.

I'm also anti-NRA and Pro Background checks for guns, but we have rights and this is clearly protected under the 1st Amendment.

The teacher may have not liked the NRA motif, but that should not have been the reason he was addressed. The principal was totally incompetent in the way she handled this situation. She could have just sent him home, called his parents, got him another T-shirt. But calling the police and having him arrested? This is the reason after receiving my degree in education that I declined from being a teacher .. so many administrators handling things badly.

But I am at a point where I just do not care what people think, I believe in the first Amendment. the second amendment and all the ones that follow, simply put I believe in all aspects of our constitution.

1. A Tee Shirt with the sleeves cut off does not constitute a Tank Top.
2. A Tee Shirt with the sleeves cut off isn't "Spaghetti Straps".
3. The school dress code does not mention logos, insignias, or inflamatory messages on student apparel.
4. School dress code does not specifically prohibit sleeveless apparel, only tank tops and spaghetti straps.

The school dress code was not violated. Slam dunk. Not Guilty.

I am NOT an NRA supporter, but I do support free speech.

Jared has a civil rights and false arrest case in his future.

1st Amendment rights in a school setting are not a given. Having worked as a teacher in K-12 before, I understand the importance of minimizing distractions. Distracting apparel fits into that category. However, an NRA t-shirt is probably not going to cause too much distraction, and I think it probably should have been acceptable to wear it to school. The school admins were obviously uptight and draconian. Overall, that part was kind of not a big deal. The student was a brat for not turning the t-shirt inside as he was asked to, so he also did his part in aggravating the situation.

Getting arrested, however? RIDICULOUS and WRONG. The young man was treated badly for such a trivial thing.

That was not mentioned. Neither was if Jared was a known trouble maker/class disruptor (smart ass)? That information was notable in its absence. This is important information. Without it, the video is slanted.

Should the police have been involved? No, but the parents should have. The proper way to handle this when Jared was ask to remove or turn inside out his T-shirt, would have been for him to do so, under protest, if necessary. Then deal with the situation and clear things up, after the fact.

That said, How is the NRA not a subversive organization? An organization that discounts death for profit, promotes violent fantasies for the Rambo and dirty Harry want-a-be's, for the profit of the manufactures of mechanisms whose basic purpose is to kill living things. Devices that are being promoted and sold as the answer to the too many death dealing weapons that are already awash in this country.
More death dealing weapons is not the answer to the too many death dealing weapons already on the streets.
How can that not be obvious to any reasonably intellect person?

If it is wrong to characterize all Muslims as bad for the words or actions of a few. Then it is equally wrong to characterize all gun owners or members of the NRA for the words of some of them.

This proves that the principal and the teacher lacks the qualifications for their jobs. The real and main function of teaching is to promote reasoning. It's OK to teach to memorize facts, dates, and happenings; math, biology, science, etc. But the highest goal of education must be to develop reasoning. They can give you a fish daily, but you will depend on them forever. If they show you how to fish, you are free. Reasoning gives you the power to optain the truth from plain facts. Teaching must promote discussion. Imposing of rules and laws without understanding the real reasons behind those rules and laws is plain nonsense.

Clear violation of the young man's constitutional rights. Had it been an actual gun he brought to school, uh, not so much.
