I haven't watched every one of these yet...just the third one about Karl Marx...I'm going to watch the others now. It's a series by the BBC and covered Keynes, Friedrich Hayek and Carl Marx, in that order.
I thought others here might find it as interesting and informative as I did.

I think people think if it's "economics"...well....
It's nice to have such a beautiful, illustrated, easy to understand video of the 'theory'
of a highly acclaimed economist that the everyday person can easily understand.
Again, thank you!

(6,476 posts)I too have just finished watching the first installment and found it to be wonderful. I'm basically self educated so I don't have the benefit of a college education and I found this to be very accessible and informative. So much history I had no idea of and so clearly explained.
I kept finding myself wishing that there could be a part 2 which addressed the changes made in our laws and regulations which were used to bolster up Keynes' economic view. He, in my view, was a real humanitarian.
This is an economic overview which I can understand and that's saying something...
Now on to the second installment and a re-viewing of number three.

I've seen this and a few other documentaries in the past that shed a lot of light on the subject of money and economics.

(6,476 posts)wonderful series and I highly recommend them, again.
I can't help it though...I'm left with a kind of sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Capitalism is a flawed system and for a while we seemed to avoid the bubbles but then Reagan and Thatcher ushered in the deregulation of the financial market and focused on breaking the back of labor and privatizing the commons. This was coupled with thirty plus years of stagnant wages (in the US) and on and on and on...the uber wealthy have trillions stashed offshore in their private paradise while they attempt to grind us down with austerity measures. Why do I doubt that this is going to end well for the average person?!
I don't believe in unregulated free markets and I don't believe in utopia....there has to be a middle ground but that would require us, all of us, to agree to share.
Worth a look for anyone who wants to understand, or just learn.

(14,656 posts)myself looking too much at the video parts and not hearing...lot of backing up!
You've hit the nail on the head...with the "agree to share". Sadly, I believe we're
beyond that. Won't happen as long as greed pays so handsomely imho.
