I Love Monsanto! Cult of Dusty.

Not saying this fellow is right. Just putting this up for discussion and debate as he makes some interesting points and he usually makes good videos. I want to learn more about both sides here. I still think GMO's should be labeled as such so people can decide for themselves if they want to buy a produce or not.

As he says in the video he just hates lies. This video is a response to a bunch of people getting on his facebook and posting a bunch of anti-GMO messages. Being who he is Dusty looked up everything they were saying and found at least a majority of it to be false or misleading.

The only real issue I take with the video is Dusty doesn't point out that a lot of scientific studies were paid for by Monsanto and it is very likely they suppressed as many negative studies as they could. This doesn't mean the positive studies that survived the review process are wrong. Just that we cannot assume they tell the whole story. I suspect Dusty knows this but hes not the type spread word of something he cannot prove.

When he had to resort to the f word in every other sentence then I knew he was lying. If you have a truly valid argument you don't need to call everyone names and scream the f word.

Aside from that, the one study he claims has been debunked actually has NOT been debunked. The Monsanto group may have debunked it but no independent scientists have debunked it.

But the reason there are very few studies, outside of Monsanto funded science, of GMO food is because manufacturers and corporations who make and sell the seeds require customers to sign a statement saying they wont do any independent research with the seeds. So, you can't just buy the seed and do studies on it.

Here is the problems with GMO and corporations who make and sell GMO seeds and foods like Monsanto. They are acting as if they are creating poison food. First they don't want to identify if their products are in the foods we buy. Why? If it is so great then they should prove it and label it. Then they don't want other scientist testing their foods and seeds unless they have a strangle hold on the funding of those studies. Why? If their foods and seeds are just so wonderful, why can't other scientist study them? Why do you have to sign a contract vowing never to study the seeds? And why do they so aggressively attack farmers who have the GMO plants growing wild on their land? Why are they so aggressively attacking small farmers and prosecuting them into bankruptcy? And why does Europe, who has not been as anti-science as our rabid right wing, ban the food when there is suppose to be no long term peer reviewed studies that claim GMO is a health risk?

What is Monsanto hiding? If they are NOT hiding something, then why do they act like they are hiding something?

It just seem to me that if Monsanto and GMO corporations are just trying to provide us with good wholesome food then why do they act like criminals trying to hide poison or something?

4. It has been debunked

I just spent 10 minutes looking at what was said on that study and Dusty is right. Tons of science web pages and blogs say it was debunked. First of all it was a tiny sample size of ten rats per group. Ten rats? Are you kidding me? Now get this! They were also genetically predisposed to develop tumors. The rats had a 70 to 98.5% chance of developing tumors in just two years of life. Five of the 10 rats in the control group also developed tumors. WTF? You call this a study?

Here are just a few links I found:

A French Study that looked into the first French Study ripped it apart:

Just so you know, Dusty is very popular on DU. His videos are posted all the time. The cussing is just part of his show but he back up his stuff. Also, if you watch the whole video Dusty is no fan of Monsanto, he simply wants people to go after them for the right reasons not made up stuff.

The Union of Concerned Scientists begs to differ with Dusty's Wikipedia research as does the European Commission:

That "broad scientific consensus" about the safety of GMO foods? The Union of Concerned Scientists has a bone to pick with Dusty: http://www.ucsusa.org/food_and_agriculture/our-failing-food-system/genetic-engineering/suppressing-research.html#.VEaF1V-M1VD

The European Commission requires labeling of GMOs: http://ec.europa.eu/food/food/biotechnology/gmfood/labelling_en.htm

Monsanto Farmer Lawsuits:

"Supreme Court Denies Family Farmers the Right to Self-Defense From Monsanto Lawsuits" (embedded links: court rulings)

"In a complicated ruling issued in June 2013 by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., American farmers were handed a partial victory when the three justices agreed with the farmers’ assertion that contamination by Monsanto was inevitable. The justices ordered Monsanto not to sue American farmers whose fields were contaminated with trace amounts of patented material, which the Court defined as 1 percent."
