ideas would allow business off the hook (such as Walmart) by paying wages low enough that workers had to supplement w/gov't assistance...
and Sen. Alexander's thought of compensating low wages by using the earned income tax credit does exactly the same thing...
Businesses already have very little responsibility for external costs (i.e. damage to the environment...) and these conservative ideas further absolve businesses from any social responsibility
