The next group of 18 year olds to vote were born during the Clinton Years,...and long AFTER the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" fad.

(9,269 posts)The day is fast approaching when the "Greatest Generation" will be gone. His veterans group disbanded a few years ago because they had all died or were no longer capable of attending meetings and keeping up the website.

Last known Confederate Veteran widow died in 2008:

Last Known Union Veteran died in 1956:

Please note, three men claim to have served in the Confederate Army and died after 1956, but subsequet research puts doubt in their status.
List of last Confederate Veterans, both disputed AND undisputed:
The problem with the last Confederates veterans, was the three people who claimed to be veterans and survived the last known Union Soldier were born in the 1854, 1856 and 1860. Thus by 1865 they would have been 11, 9 and 5. Five is way to young, but it is possible for a 9 or 11 year old to have served, but as a drummer boy (and neither claim that position). Thus it is possible that the last two actually served, the South was disparate for troops in 1865. The Confederate Congress even voted to arm slaves and give them they freedom in January 1865, that is how disparate the South was in 1865 (The plan called for Owners to agree and to paid for their slaves, from what I have read, none agreed for Confederate Money was worthless by then).
I have to lean to these last three NOT being Veterans, the last two it is possible, but not probable.
