Related: About this forumIran the next Iraq?
Despite a lack of concrete evidence, the Western powers and their allies have continued to accuse Iran of developing nuclear weapons. A series of events including the bombing of Israeli embassies, threatening to cut oil exports to the UK and loading fuel rods in a research reactor have many feeling Iran is provoking a war. So is Iran really a threat or is the mainstream media promoting America's next war? David Swanson, author of War is a Lie, joins us to discuss the complicated situation with Iran.

(46,122 posts)told the audience that he couldn't wait for this country to invade Iran. Why? He was blunt: so our country (read, corporations) could control the world's greatest supply of oil and could control how much they could charge other countries, i.e., make them do whatever this country (read, corporations) told them to do (read, Greece) or make them stop doing whatever this country (read, corporations) didn't want them to do.
They're not even hiding their plans.

(6,960 posts)... but a war with Iran will not be anything like the Iraq war.
The Iranians are a much bigger, much more modern country than Iraq was when Bush ordered the unprovoked attack.
I suspect that the Iranians have a capability to actually fight back against any country and /or countries that might attack it.
Besides, the economic devastation would be tremendous.
Sadly, the propaganda and rhetoric from Repuglicans and some Democrats is much like the WMD rationale used in the run-up to the Iraq war.
