since a lot of those scouts will have puppy fat before they go into their last growth spurt. Scouting will lose them because they rejected them because of something they could not help.

It's just another way that organization is falling short and damaging the boys who join.

it was mentioned that, first, while the idiot claimed that 40,000 boy scouts were camping on 100 acres. It's quite a bit more, with state or federal lands adjoining.

Then, what happens during a jamboree? The scout swim, canoe, climb mountains, have races, and are active many miles from a medical facility. Accidents might happen, but they happen more often to kids who are out of shape. And they are more serious. This guy saw pictures? Has he been a Scout? Does he know a Scout?

Nobody is saying the fat kids can't go, just that they have to have a doctor's note-- is that really a problem?

There are issues with Scouts, but this isn't one of them.

I remember how boys back in the 60's looked forward to the prestigious Jamboree. As a Girl Scout who was overweight in my childhood, I was prejudged always. But I won city-wide archery and lashing (knots- for the non-campers). I know Girl Scouts has changed dramatically since then.

my troop seemed to be a diverse bunch-at least as diverse as my neighborhood at the time.
part of the diversity was that pretty much anyone could join and participate as much as I know.
there were physical requirements as to swimming and such for advancement
if the kids can pass the requirements-why the hell not
We did have a deaf kid in our troop I do not remember him having any problems with signing up for anything-his father was a scoutmaster and I do not think he would have tolerated any bs.

on the photo, the white shield with the red cross looks like the god and country award-it was an optional award that you could work on.
I did get mine-it was part of my indoctrination into social justice--which has made me the crazy lefty liberal that I am today.
My parents were into social justice even more than I was at the time. If bsa pulled this kind of crap back then-my parents if they were aware would have had a shit fit.

being a scout is supposed to be the transition from being a kid into becoming an adult
fat standards for participation is just wrong
